On June 7th the America the Bountiful tour met with a group of farmers in Keysville, GA outside the Boggs Rural Life Center. They spoke of current and historic discrimination including the loss of land. We all listened and brainstormed what could be done in the Farm Bill now pending in Congress to assist them as well as the need for more fundamental reforms. I was struck by how little I knew about the explicit efforts by USDA to take their land and the limitations of a successful class action suit to restore their property and livelihood. Systemic racism is a stubborn disease.
