On the road with the America the Bountiful tour In Asheboro, NC (Monday, June 4th), we had delicious burgers for lunch from grass-fed cattle at the Saxapahaw General Store supplied from www.Braeburnfarms.com After lunch we had an inspiring discussion with local farmers and Bruce Nelson (former CEO of Office Depot) that ranged from restoring soil without chemicals to the threat posed by Walmart and Amazon to family farmers and other small businesses.
We then toured the Braeburn Farm where Dr. Charles Synor and Nick Harper showed us how they brought dead soil to life over the last decade which now supports a healthy herd of cattle.
In the evening we and local farmers were treated to a dinner at Tom & Janice Henslee’s farm, Back to Earth, where they also operate a beautiful BnB — “Nature Lovers Retreat on the River.”
